The Olympic flame was lit in ancient Olympia, Greece last night and it feels so long ago since the announcement of the successful bidding city for the 2012 Olympic Games.
So the London Olympics are nearing ever so closely; the athletes are prepared, the stadiums are built and the wait is nearly over. The excitement and anticipation has grown and the World is ready to get behind their nations. But will you be representing your Olympic team by wearing their official merchandise?
The leading designer for Team GB’s kits was Heather Mills, ex-wife to The Beatles’ legend, Sir Paul McCartney. They teamed up with Adidas to design the kits and the design has been praised by many British Olympic & Paralympic athletes.

Most kits can be bought by the general public so that they can represent their nation for any event. There have also been vast amounts of ‘official merchandise’ produced by Adidas that are being sold in general/sports stores across the UK.

But will you be sporting any official Team GB merchandise? There was some dispute over the pricing of the Team GB football kit, as its recommended retail price is £52. Some would say that’s pretty steep for a replica footy shirt, but others have argued that it’s ‘a great gift for the football mad or the Team GB supporter and a unique souvenir of the London 2012 Games’.

So will you be putting your hand in your pocket to get behind your nation? ..Or just get behind the TV screen? Perhaps there’ll be a post-Olympics sale that will give you a chance to get those souvenirs a little cheaper..

So the London Olympics came to a closure on Sunday evening with a huge mixture of British music and an impressive send-off. The support for Team GB during the Olympics was phenomenal; and they managed to grab 65 medals in total, with 29 of them being gold. But, as we all know, we’ve still got the Paralympics to go.
The Paralympics will be hosted on Wednesday 29th August – Sunday 9th September. London can have a little breather (although the streets were surprisingly quieter during the Olympics), everybody can get back to work for a bit- then the games begin again. There was something truly special about the atmosphere and spirit throughout Great Britain during the games, which I really hope becomes even stronger in 2 weeks’ time.
Paralympics GB is gearing up to try to improve on its medal haul at the 2008 Games, when the team won 42 gold medals in Beijing and came second in the overall medal table for the third successive Paralympics. We have a strong team that I’m sure are excited to go out and make Britain proud.
Sometimes the Paralympic games are watched over and slightly less popular than the Olympic games, If you’ve never really watched the Paralympics I recommend you do so; I have an enormous amount of respect for these athletes, who have defied the odds of what many ever expect. These games are equal to- if not, better than- the Olympic Games.
On September 10th come and see all of our Olympic & Paralympic hero’s parade through the streets of London. But before that you need to get behind GB! Be loud. Be proud. You could even still try and get tickets. Shout at the TV until they might just hear you! Let’s keep inspiring the young generation and not just let these games become forgotten about.
Go Team GB!
